The Journal of Ophthalmology of Eastern, Central and Southern Africa (JOECSA) is the official journal of the College of Ophthalmology of Eastern, Central and Southern Africa (COECSA), serving a subscribed membership of approximately 500. Established in 1976 as the East African Journal of Ophthalmology (EAJO), the publication was renamed JOECSA in August 2013 and continues to operate under the original ISSN registered for EAJO.
JOECSA is an open access journal published in English in both print and electronic formats, dedicated to advancing all aspects of ophthalmology and community eye health. This peer-reviewed scientific journal publishes original research that contributes to new knowledge in eye care, blindness prevention, and poverty eradication across Eastern, Central, and Southern Africa. JOECSA’s overarching objective is to produce a regular, high-quality, peer-reviewed publication that enhances the regional and international visibility and citation of ophthalmic research from the region.
