Data Sharing and Availability

JOECSA encourages and, where applicable, requires authors to share the underlying data, materials, and supplementary files supporting their published findings to promote transparency, reproducibility, and scientific advancement.ojs.

Authors must include a Data Availability Statement (DAS) in their manuscript specifying:

• Whether the data are publicly available (e.g., in a repository such as Dryad, Figshare, or Zenodo) with a persistent identifier (DOI). 

• Whether the data are available upon reasonable request from the corresponding author, subject to ethical or legal restrictions (e.g., patient privacy). 

• Whether the data cannot be shared due to ethical, legal, or proprietary constraints, with a clear justification.

JOECSA strongly prefers deposition in public, FAIR-compliant (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) repositories that assign DOIs and ensure long-term preservation. Authors are encouraged to share not only raw data but also analysis code, protocols, and supplementary materials (e.g., videos, images, questionnaires) to enhance reproducibility.

Data sharing must comply with ethical and legal requirements, including patient confidentiality and institutional policies. Authors may request exemptions from data sharing if disclosure would compromise participant privacy or violate ethical approvals, but such exemptions must be justified in the DAS.

This policy aligns with NIH, COPE, and PMC expectations for data transparency and supports JOECSA's commitment to open science and research integrity.
